Donna Lent, a member of NWPC for twenty-nine years, was elected to an unprecedented fourth term as President at the NWPC Biennial Convention in 2021.

As Chief of Staff to a member of the New York State Assembly (2000-2009) she played a crucial role in the passage of important legislation protecting and expanding women’s rights including an anti-stalking bill. Donna is currently the elected Town Clerk of Brookhaven, NY, (pop. 484,994) and was elected to a third four-year term in 2021

In 1992 Ms. Lent was one of the principals spearheading the nearly three-year effort to create the NY State CHOICE Party; a counter to the New York State Right to Life Party that existed at the time.  The New York State Right to Life Party was a minor political party that was active only in the State of New York and was founded to oppose the legalization of abortion in New York in 1970.

The CHOICE Party’s goal was to provide a “voting booth” education so voters would know whether a candidate supported a women’s Right to Choose.  There would be no more guessing about a candidate’s position on such an important issue to women.  If a candidate appeared on the CHOICE Party line, a voter could be sure where the candidate supported women’s reproductive freedom.  New York is one of the few states that allow cross-endorsements of major party candidates.  The Right to Life Party no longer exists in New York State as they lost their ballot access after failing to obtain 50,000 votes for Governor in 2002.

Donna has a long history of working to elect pro-choice candidates and has served as campaign manager in winning local, county, and state campaigns.
