NWPC To Host The 2015 Good Guys Gala in Washington D.C.
The National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) will host the 2015 Good Guys Gala on July 18, 2015 as part of the 22nd Biennial Convention weekend. The Good Guys Awards were established in 1971 to honor men from all backgrounds who have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of women’s rights and gender equality. This year, the honorees are the late Dr. Howard Lessner, former NWPC Political Director Nick Demeter (1997-99), Baltimore City Councilman Nick Mosby (District 7), and Missouri State Representative Stephen Webber (D-46). In addition, the Caucus is awarding the international professional services network PwC, LLP the 2015 Good Corporation Award.
“We know that women’s empowerment means more choices for both women and men – choices which can have intensely positive ramifications for our social and economic fabric worldwide,” said President Linda Young. “We believe that PwC’s substantial and documented work to encourage a more equitable workplace will help to remove barriers to women, allowing them to rise to the top ranks in corporate leadership.”
Upon receiving news that he had been selected for the 2015 Good Guys Award Nick Demeter said, “I’m incredibly honored, as a young professional, the NWPC gave me the tools and inspiration I needed to build a career supporting international women’s political empowerment in over 12 developing countries. I owe a great debt of gratitude to the Caucus as do the thousands of women leaders impacted in some way by the programs I managed over the last 16 years. Long live the NWPC!”
Representative Stephen Webber said this when learning of his nomination as a Good Guy, “As a former aide to U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, I had access to one of the greatest women leaders in our country and the important perspective women and people of diversity bring to the political process in this country. This experience inspired me to fight for equal pay for women through my House Bill 44 and also through my House Bill 407 which seeks to amend the Missouri Human Rights Act to prohibit discrimination against LGBTQ persons in the state.”
Councilman Nick Mosby will receive the Martin Abzug Good Spouse Award, which was named in honor of NWPC Founder Bella Abzug’s husband and is given to men who have not only proved themselves to be allies to women, but who are also supportive spouses of powerful women leaders. Nick Mosby will be honored for his public service in the seventh district of Baltimore City and for his steadfast support of his wife, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “I am honored to receive the National Women’s Caucus’ 2015 Good Guy Award,” stated Councilman Mosby. “To have been chosen alongside the company of previous recipients like President Barack Obama is an honor beyond measure.”
The Good Guys Gala will take place in Washington, DC at the Mayflower Hotel from 7 to 9pm on July 18, 2015. The Gala will include a seated dinner, keynote speaker, and awards ceremony.
