Betty died on her 85th birthday, February 4, 2006. The reception took place at the Sewall-Belmont House and speakers relayed stories and memories of Betty, Betty's impact on thier individual lives and society, and urged us to continue Betty's legacy by fighting for women's equality.

Emily Gardner

a student at American University and a former NWPC intern, relayed a story about a History teacher in high school who questioned her desire to read The Feminine Mystique for a class report and instead supplied her with a list books written by men, about men's history. In true feminist style, Emily dismissed her teacher's recommendations and read Betty's book. Go Emily!
