Bev Perdue
A Strong Fighter for North Carolina

Wining in the primary election by a whopping sixteen percent, and the biggest win in North Carolina history, Beverly Perdue is a strong candidate for the November gubernatorial election. Now that North Carolina legislature has adjourned, Lt. Governor Bev Perdue has dedicated herself to her campaign. Her fundraising numbers are very high and with $1.4 million on hand we expect a tough campaign to beat.
Her campaign plans a strong fueled operation this fall. Bev is currently our only endorsed candidate in a gubernatorial race and if elected would be North Carolina’s first female governor, and the third female governor of a southern state.
Bev Perdue was elected to the state legislature in 1987 and became a state senator in 1990. In this position Bev became the state’s first woman chief budget writer. In 2000 she was elected North Carolina’s first female Lt. Governor.
Bev Perdue is a strong advocate of women’s issues. She ardently defended Roe vs. Wade during her time in the North Carolina senate. In 1993 she co-sponsored Senate Bill 873, a landmark legislation which allowed women safe access to reproductive health facilities. Her leadership to pass Senate Bill 90, contraceptive equity legislation which required insurers to provide coverage for prescription drugs for contraception. This law became a model for other southern states.
Ms. Perdue’s focus has been on public education, and she helped raise teachers’ salaries from $21,000 to $43,000 during her tenure in the state legislature. Issues important to Purdue include creating affordable healthcare, improving schools, generating high paying jobs, the environment, and fighting for the working class. A strong division between the candidates is education. Perdue opposes state vouchers for private schools, while Pat Mcrory is in favor of them.
The North Carolina Women’s Political Caucus has played an active role in Perdue’s campaign. Indeed she enjoys overwhelming support from over 11,000 women who belong to “Women for Perdue”. Bev Perdue is an inspiration to North Carolina’s Youth, paving the way for future generations of female politicians.
