President's Message
January 2010 e-newsletter

Dear NWPC Members and Friends,

I hope that your holidays went well and that the New Year has gotten off to a great start. As we begin a new year, I look forward with excitement and anticipation to getting more progressive, pro-choice women elected to office and to achieving our goal of 50-50 by 2020. We have exactly ten years to do that, so now more than ever we need to commit to our mission of recruiting, supporting and electing more women candidates to office. We have an abundance of talent in our many endorsed candidates across the country and we must do everything we can to help them be victorious.

This issue of our e-newsletter features one of those great candidates who ran and won! Read below about NWPC endorsed candidate and Mayor of Houston, Texas, Annise Parker, who made history last month. Also, Martha Coakley’s race presents an important opportunity to elect one more woman to the U.S. Senate in just a few days. Read more below on how you can be a part of history by electing the first woman Senator from Massachusetts and increasing the number of women in the Senate to 18. Her race is heating up and she needs our help!

The debate on the Health Care Bill continues as House and Senate leaders work on a final compromise bill. Both versions of the bills passed by the House and Senate contain provisions restricting women’s access to abortion services; such language is unacceptable. Read our health care update for more information including links to additional sources of information and how to get involved.

Finally, our member spotlight focuses on one of our long standing and active members, Linda Hale Barter of Tucson, Arizona. Read more about her and her contributions to NWPC as well as about the great events and work of our state and local chapters.

Thanks again for your support and work for NWPC.

In Solidarity,
Lulu
