72 HOURS TO SAVE OUR REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM

The fight over the Senate filibuster has been falsely portrayed as partisan infighting between Senate Republicans and Democrats. Nothing could be further from the truth. If the filibuster on judicial nominees is banned, there is absolutely nothing standing in the way of overturning Roe v. Wade and every other basic freedom for women. Early next week Senate Leader Bill Frist threatens to bring forward the names of two of the most absolutely extreme right wing activist judges who happen to be women, Janice Rogers Brown and Priscilla Owens in hopes of forcing a showdown over the filibuster. If Democrats filibuster the two to keep them from receiving a lifetime judicial appointment, Frist has promised to have Senate President Cheney invoke a rules change banning filibusters. The filibuster is the last tool left in our arsenal to save the Supreme Court. It is absolutely critical that over the next 3-4 days we do all of the following:
- Call, fax or e-mail your senators urging them to oppose Brown and Owens and the rules change. If they are already on record as opposed, thank them and urge them to stand firm.
- Use every opportunity and forum over the next three days to urge others to call their senators.

- Call, fax or e-mail Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and urge him to stand firm on Brown and Owens and the filibuster.
