SUPPORT OF WOMEN'S HEALTH AMENDMENT TO BUDGET RESOLUTION
Take action by Thursday, March 17, 2005
Senators Reid (D-NV) and Clinton (D-NY) will
offer parts of S.20, "Prevention First," as an
amendment to the Budget Resolution currently
being discussed on the Senate floor. Votes will
occur Thursday, March 17 in a giant "voterama"
so that Senators can vote on all the amendments
at once before they hurry to leave for 2 ½
weeks of their "spring break."
So,
besides e-mailing
your Senator to sponsor S.20, please call
their state or Capitol offices and ask to speak
with the staff person who handles the budget,
or women's or health issues. Find
their phone numbers and make the call ASAP.
Ask them to support the Reid/Clinton amendment
to the budget bill that supports family
planning and important women's health needs.
This amendment should receive
bipartisan support, so be sure and call your
Republican and Democratic Senators.
The
amendment will be introduced on Thursday and
reads as follows:
(1) Increases public
health funding for FY 2006 by $100 million.
(2) Expresses the Senate of the Senate
that the $100 million should be used to:
- Increase funding for the National Family Planning Program (Title X)
- Enact the EPICC bill
- Increase funding to improve awareness and
education about Emergency Contraception (EC);
and
- Fund new teen pregnancy prevention
programs (that are not abstinence-only
programs).
The amendment is offset by revenues derived from closing corporate tax loopholes; and dedicates an additional $100 million to deficit reduction.
Thank you for contacting your Senators now and asking them to sponsor the ""Prevention First Act," ," S.20 and also call to support Senator's Reid and Clinton's amendment to the budget resolution which will be on the floor of the Senate Thursday, March 17.
