From the Senate: Senator
Clinton Calls for Passage of Employee
Free Choice Act
HillaryClinton.com
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today
joined thousands of workers in calling for
passage of the Employee Free Choice Act.
The bill, cosponsored by Senator Clinton, will
strengthen workers' right to organize.
"This is about giving people choices and
protecting workers' fundamental rights," said
Senator Clinton. "Unions helped build the
middle class in this country. To
rebuild our middle class, we need to restore a
level playing field for unions and give them a
meaningful opportunity to organize for better
wages, stronger benefits, and safer working
conditions."
Statement of Hillary
Clinton on Expected Veto of Stem
Cell Legislation
HillaryClinton.com
Senator Hillary Clinton made the
following comments in a speech before the Take
Back America Conference in Washington this
morning.
"You know, later today, apparently,
the president will veto a bill by Congress to
support stem cell research. Now, this is
research that...holds such promise for
devastating diseases. Yesterday, I met
with a group of children suffering from
juvenile diabetes. I co-chair the
Alzheimer's caucus in the Senate. I've
worked on helping to boost funding for research
to look for cures and a way to prevent so many
devastating diseases. And we know that
stem cell research holds the key to our
understanding more about what we can do.
So let me be very clear: When I am
president, I will lift the ban on stem cell
research.
"This is just one example of how the
President puts ideology before science,
politics before the needs of our families, just
one more example of how out of touch with
reality he and his party have become. And
it's just one more example as to why
we're going to send them packing in January
2009, and return progressive leadership to the
White House."

Poll: Clinton
Establishes Healthy Lead Over Obama
USA
Today
New York Sen. Hillary
Rodham Clinton has regained a double-digit lead
over Illinois Sen. Barack Obama in the USA
TODAY/Gallup Poll two weeks after the survey
found the Democratic presidential rivals
essentially tied.
She leads by 39%-26%
if Gore isn't included. Former North
Carolina senator John Edwards is then third at
13%.
Hillary Clinton
Always Comes Prepared
Salon News
The leading Democratic
contenders for the presidency are often praised
on the campaign trail for their inspirational
style (Barack Obama) and their forthright issue
stands (John Edwards). But only Hillary
Clinton is routinely hailed for the
letter-perfect quality of her
preparation.
Presiding over a panel
discussion on stem-cell research at Dartmouth
College Friday afternoon, Clinton was showing
off her policy-polished persona. She
artfully framed Republican resistance to
stem-cell experimentation in political terms
("this is an extraordinary pro-life position to
try to give life to people") and she reveled in
her mastery of the scientific details
surrounding this issue.
Hillary Pitches New
Iraq War Vote
Daily News
Sen. Hillary
Clinton is asking her fellow senators to sign
on to her and Sen. Robert Byrd's plan for an
Iraq war vote do-over.
In a letter to
all 98 other senators provided to the Daily
News yesterday, Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Byrd
(D-W.Va.) say Congress should haul President
Bush back for a new war vote when the Senate
debates the 2008 military spending bill in the
next few weeks.
The letter, sent Friday,
argues that the 2002 vote for the war, which
Clinton backed, is hopelessly out of
date.

Hillary Clinton slams proposed
U.S.-Korea trade pact
Reuters
Sen. Hillary
Clinton, the Democratic front-runner in the
presidential race, said on Saturday she would
oppose ratification of a free trade pact with
South Korea because it would hard the U.S. auto
industry, among other things.
"While I value the
strong relationship the United States enjoys
with South Korea, I believe that this agreement
is inherently unfair," Clinton said at an event
hosted by the AFL-CIO labor confederation in
Detriot, home of the U.S. car
industry.
"It will hurt the
U.S. auto industry, increase our trade deficit,
cost us good middle-class jobs and make America
less competitive."
Hispanic Voters Gain New Clout With
Democrats
New York Times
Helped by the
fight over immigration, Democratic presidential
candidates are courting Hispanic voters like
never before, prompted by a string of early
primaries in states with sizable Hispanic
voting blocs.
At this early
stage, Mrs. Clinton, a New York Democrat,
appears best poised to benefit from the
heightened Hispanic role in the primary
process. She had already captured a
prized endorsement, of Mayor Antonio R.
Villaraigosa of Los Angeles, one of the
nation's most prominent Hispanic
politicians.
Senate Democrats are laboring to get
troops home, Clinton says
Des Moines Register
U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton said
Saturday that she and other Democratic senators
are frustrated in their attempts to force
President Bush to remove American troops from
Iraq.
Clinton, who spoke
to several hundred people here, noted that
Congress passed a bill with a withdrawal
deadline earlier this year, but Bush vetoed
it.
"He rushed our
country to war, he waged a pre-emptive war, he
mismanaged the war, he misled about the war,"
she said. "He escalated the war, and he
refuses to end the war."

Clinton Focuses on the
Country's Widening Income Inequality
New Hampshire
Public Radio
Sen. Hillary
Clinton has laid out what she called a new
progressive plan to address growing income
inequality in America.
In a speech today
at the Manchester School of Technology, the New
York Senator chastised President George Bush
and Republicans for saddling the country with
debt and promoting tax policies that she said
favor the wealthy few at the expense of
everyone else. Afterwards, Clinton spoke
with New Hampshire's Public Radio's Jon
Greenburg.
Senator Clinton
said the need for reform is as great as it was
in the early 1900's. But unlike that era,
she says the publi today should be suspicious
of both big government AND big
business.

"While productivity
and corporate profits are up, the fruits of
that success just hasn't reached many of our
families," said Clinton, who spoke at the

industries, such as construction and culinary
arts. "It's like trickle-down economics,
without the trickle."

Clinton Sees Flaws in
Immigration
Bill
The Journal
News
Both New York Senators
think the immigration overhaul bill working its
way through the Senate needs significant
changes before final passage. Sen.
Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chuck Schumer have
opposed a proposed nonimmigrant guest worker
program-or so-called Y visa- that is a central
piece of the deal brokered by Congressional
leaders and the Bush
administration.
Hillary Winning Race For Super
Delegates
New York
Newsday
Clinton has mounted
the most aggressive program to court
superdelegates, winning endorsements from 37 so
far, including three Senate colleagues and the
governors of Maryland, New Jersey, and New
York. She's even deputized several House
members as "whips" to woo uncommitted
colleagues. The group includes Ohio Rep.
Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, Florida Rep. Debbie
Wasserman-Schultz, and New York Reps. Nita
Lowey and Joseph Crowley.
In an interview,
Crowley said the effort has morphed a bit since
it began in March, when the Clinton whips
initially tried to target lawmakers from
specific states.
"We have an initial
strategy of breaking it down into regions, but
more often than not it's based on your own
relationships with people, that level of
comfort," Crowley stated.
Inouye
Endorses Clinton
The Honolulu Star
Bulletin
Daniel Inouye,
Hawaii's senior Senator, is endorsing U.S. Sen.
Hillary Clinton for President and will lead a
group of veterans in supporting the New York
democrat's campaign.
"I believe Hillary
Clinton is the best prepared to deal with the
challenges facing our nation at home and
abroad," Inouye said in a news release from the
Clinton campaign.
Clinton
Asks Voters to Rock her
Campaign
The Chicago
Sun-Times
Hillary Rodham Clinton wants YouTube
viewers to pick her campaign theme song-- and
the response, so far, has been music to her
ears.
In a clear appeal to young voters, a
YouTube video asks viewers to vote for
Clinton's Presidential campaign theme song on
her website. The contest started May 16
and the number of songs were narrowed to 10 on
Thursday-- five initially suggested by the
campaign and five write in
candidates.
