The Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution is basic to achieving gender equality in this country.
From Abigail Adams and Alice Paul to Representative Carolyn Maloney and Justice Ruth B. Ginsburg, it is no secret that women are interested in full explicit citizenship. It has been over 150 years since Seneca Falls and time could not be better to finally ratify Constitutional Equality for all Americans.
Yes, we all have the right to vote and seek redress when an injustice occurs but still this essential exclusion is undeniable.
To members of Congress:
- Let us at last move this simple amendment through the 112th Congress and out to the states for ratification.
- Let us introduce it early, hold authoritative hearings, vote on the floor, sign at the White House and close this broken circle.
- Let us easily read these 24 words in our beloved Constitution assuring that no one is left out.
Equality of Rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
