National Women’s Political Caucus Foundation Kicks Off 2024 With New Slate of Officers

The National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) Foundation, the premier non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to shaping the next generation of women in politics, held their biennial election in December, for the 2024 Executive Board of Directors. Founded in 2012, the NWPC Foundation mission is “to build an endowment fund that will provide a reliable income stream for the National Women’s Political Caucus, Inc., and its affiliated State and Local Caucuses’ leadership development, education and research projects that fit within the restrictions of a 501 (c)(3) tax-deductible organization, consistent with the goals and values of the National Women’s Political Caucus, Inc.”

Newly elected President, Paula Owen Willmarth of Kansas City, Missouri, has been part of the organization for several years, holding numerous previous positions within the National Women’s Political Caucus, Inc., both at state and national level, having most recently served as the Vice President of Political Planning and Appointments for NWPC, Inc. Paula has served on the Foundation for several years.  

Owen Willmarth, is a retired social worker and a graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government. She served as Director of Missouri’s Social Services and Child Welfare agency, as well as numerous management positions in the areas of social services and mental health.  She spent thirty years serving in Missouri state government. She also worked in New York City’s Administration on Children and Families during the Bloomberg Administration. 

 “It is indeed an honor to be leading this organization. Given the state of women’s rights today, we are called to do whatever we can to empower more women to elected office,” Owen Willmarth said.  “NWPC Foundation, since the inception, has been a leading organization in the important work of getting more women involved in the political process,” she added.

The organization’s newly elected leadership team demonstrates the commitment to diversity and electing leaders from across the country.  In addition to President Owen Willmarth, they are: Dr. Carmen Estrada Schaye, Vice President of Grants, California; Margo McNeil, Treasurer, Missouri; Laura Goettsche, Secretary, Texas.  Other General Board Members are Belinda Anderson of Tennessee, Donna Lent, of South Carolina, Cindy Wu of California, Deidre Malone of Tennessee, Shicagolyn Hams Scroggins of Missouri, and Dawn Lott of New York.
